Enhancing Pool Water Clarity: Approaches to Effectively Control Floc

We often encounter unpleasant floc floating in the swimming pool, which has become a common issue for many swimmers. Despite having installed filters, it appears they don’t completely resolve the flocculation problem. In this perplexity, we began to ponder how to better address the floc issue in the swimming pool.

Solutions for Effectively Dealing with Floc

1. Add Flocculant to Settle and Absorb Sewage

Adding flocculant to settle and absorb sewage is a common and effective method for controlling suspended solids in swimming pool water. This approach is suitable when the swimming pool contains a significant amount of floc, and traditional filters cannot meet the cleaning requirements.

Procedure: The circulating filtration device in the swimming pool must first be turned off to prevent premature discharge of flocculant from the filter. Then, add flocculant to the swimming pool water, following the specified ratio. The flocculant primarily aggregates fine suspended particles into larger groups to facilitate further sedimentation and cleaning.

Adding flocculant promotes the formation of alum from suspended particles, increasing the density of floc. After stopping the circulation of floc in the swimming pool water, it naturally settles to the bottom, forming a solid settlement layer. During the cleaning process, allow the pool water to stand still for a period to ensure complete settlement of the floc. Then, use an auxiliary device, such as an underwater suction device, to carefully remove the sediment layer so that it no longer floats on the water.

During actual operation, strict control and adaptation to the water quality conditions of the pool water are necessary. Note that when using this method, the swimming pool must be closed to ensure sufficient floc settles and is removed. This method is a cost-effective traditional approach suitable for various types of swimming pools.

2. Add Clarifier and Contact Filtration Treatment

This method maintains the circulation filter’s good working condition when the swimming pool is operating normally. Add clarifier in the specified proportion at the return port of the swimming pool. The clarifier generates fine particles in the water and combines with floc.

Unlike the traditional method, this treatment method uses a clarifier to perform contact filtration on the filter material, allowing efficient removal of sedimentation and filtration of fine particles. Under normal circumstances, 2-3 treatments can significantly improve water quality.

The scope of application mainly includes swimming pools that have installed circulating filtration equipment, capable of processing floc without stopping the pool.

Compared with traditional methods, this method is more convenient and simple to operate, does not require closing the swimming pool, and can quickly improve the pool water’s clarity. When using it, pay attention to using the clarifier correctly and following the prescribed proportion and method to avoid improper use that could adversely affect swimming pool water quality.

3. Counter-flow or Mixed-flow Water Circulation

We can also consider other effective measures to control suspended solids. Among them, counter-flow or mixed-flow water circulation is a key measure.

Counter-flow water circulation and mixed-flow water circulation are two effective ways to control suspended solids. Counter-current water circulation concentrates floating objects into the overflow tank through reverse flow, facilitating subsequent cleaning work. In contrast, mixed-flow water circulation uniformly guides floating objects to the overflow tank by adjusting the flow direction and speed of the water body. These two methods can be selected according to different situations and needs, and are suitable for all types of swimming pools.

Additionally, mechanical cleaning is essential to keep the water clean. No matter which water circulation mode is adopted, regularly using underwater suction devices and other facilities to remove suspended solids on the water surface and bottom is necessary.

By addressing the problem of ‘flops’ in swimming pools, I realized the importance of cleaning and maintenance. By introducing progressive methods and adopting scientific management methods, the water quality of the swimming pool can be effectively improved, creating a fresh and comfortable swimming environment for enthusiasts. Let us work together to create a clean and healthy swimming pool and enjoy the joy of swimming freely
